Our first, and so far only, Pétillant-Natural sparkling wine. The remnants of the yeast remain in the bottle giving the wine a slight haze.

This version is made by the crazy guys at Vandal, who use Chardonnay and Muscat Blanc varieties which retain their grapey fruitiness whilst having enough structure to make it interesting and winey. It's a bit of fun - don't take it too seriously. Just enjoy its deliciousness.

The Producer

Vandal

Vandal

Vandal is a collaboration of three Marlborough wine producers, each working as a side project to their day job.

The idea is to produce unconventional wines from unusual blends, going against the grain of the largely formulaic wines for which Marlborough is renowned. The grapes come from single vineyard sites, harvested and fermented together. If they like the result, it is bottled. The quantities are tiny, but the personality of the wines is vast.

Although Noble Grape is interested primarily in traditional, authentic styles, we can't hide our admiration for mavericks too. Please don't take the wines too seriously: we can only guess the amount of fun Vandal has in coming up with these blends, which then appears as the deliciousness in these wines.

The Country

New Zealand

New Zealand

Brits have fallen in love with the wines of New Zealand. The affair probably has much to do with the colonial heritage, but it also has a great deal to do with the excellent, benchmark wines that are produced here. The story must begin with Sauvignon Blanc, but certainly doesn’t end there. Since the 1970s the region of Marlborough has become the go-to area, perhaps in the world, for bright, crystalline ‘Savs’ which gave the French something to think about. But now, it is becoming as equally famous for its Pinots, which are now beyond just being less expensive alternatives to Burgundy, instead showing regional characteristics, from the dark cherry and spice of Central Otago to the brawn and dried herbs of Martinborough.

A special mention goes to the Chardonnays of Kumeu River of Auckland, as these are some of the most remarkable wines from this variety in the Southern Hemisphere.
