Jean-Paul Brun is our favourite producer of Beaujolais. His wines combine all the freshness and vibrancy typical of the wines from this region, but this something a little 'extra' about his wines: their mouthfeel and, dare we say, elegance. The Grape Variety
Gamay
Gamay is mostly known for producing the red wines of Beaujolais, but is also grown in other regions of France, particularly in the Loire where it makes Cote Roannaise, Touraine and the odd vineyard in the western Loire. Gamay's defining characteristic is its low tannins and high acidity together with its vibrant black cherry aromas. On the odd occasion, if planted in the right terroir and made with precision, the wines from this variety can age and develop for many years, but it is appealing when young and most wines, due to the low tannins, can be drunk cool.
