M Chapoutier 2021 Crozes Hermitage Les Meysonnieres
Crozes Hermitage is the benchmark Northern Rhone Syrah. Michel Chapoutier is the master of style, producing elegant, spicy, black olive, & blackberry-scented wines from his organic vineyards.
2021 was a troublesome vintage for many reasons, but the resulting wines are successful and good for another few years of cellaring if desired.

The Producer
M. Chapoutier
M Chapoutier has its roots in the Rhone Valley dating back to 1808, but its reputation excellence begins with the arrival of Michel Chapoutier in 1990. Chapoutier converted all the domaine's vineyards to biodynamics and attracted huge attention from the press, his greatest advocate being Robert Parker. Not willing to rest on his laurels, Chapoutier has set about acquiring new vineyards, expanding beyond his home turf in the Rhone valley: Heathcote in Australia, Alsace, and slightly closer to home, Domaine Bila Haut in Roussillon.
The Region
Rhone Valley
The Rhône Valley wine region follows the Rhône river from just south of Lyon in the North to its delta on the Mediterranean coast. The region can roughly be divided into two parts: The Northern Rhone, where Syrah dominates the reds, and the Southern Rhone, where the reds are almost always blends, but with Grenache Noir the dominant variety.
The region is also know for its whites, with the tiny AOC of Condrieu being the spiritual home of Viognier, and the Marsanne / Roussanne wines of Hermitage, St Joseph and others.
