D'Oliveiras 1988 Terrantez Vintage Madeira
D'Oliveiras was founded in 1880, today it is one of the most important family owned wineries on the island of Madeira.
Terrantez is a very rare grape variety that has all but disappeared from the island of Madeira. Its wines are somewhat dryish in style, but it is its citrussy acidity that defines its style and makes it feel drier than it is.
D'Oliveiras has some dwindling stock of old vintages (Frasqueras) of this variety, making this wine a rare bird indeed. This beauty was bottled in 2020, after brooding in cask for 32 years. Fortunately, Madeira keeps incredibly well once opened, so this nectar can be savoured in small sips over a long period.
