Chateau d'Esclans 2021 The Beach by Whispering Angel
Chateau d'Esclans is the brainchild of Sasha Lichine who has a mission to create the world's best rosés from his estate in Cotes de Provence, aided by one of the world's greatest winemakers, Patrick Leon, formerly the head winemaker at Chateau Mouton Rothschild. He has all the elements for producing great wines at his fingertips: old vines, favourable climate, technical expertise, but most importantly, the drive and passion craft exquisite wines.
The estate has 44 hectares of vineyards near the town of La Motte en Provence situated in the Gorges de Pennafort. This area is renowned for its elegant rosés, which, more often than not, surpass the quality of the white wines, and on rare exceptions, this wine included, can equal the great reds of the area.
Whispering Angel is a delicately scented wine which is almost unparalleled in the world of Rosé wines. It is made from the delicate balance of having old vines, state-of-the-art winemaking facilities and technical expertise.
Provence is perhaps the most picturesque of France's wine regions with azure coasts and lavender fields. There has been a tsunami of rosé flooding our shores from this region, some of it of questionable quality, but in the majority the wines are extremely likeable and in some instances, outstanding.
We are particularly fond of Domaine des Mapliers for their sophisticated and gastronomic style, but who can forget Chateau d'Esclans for their Whispering Angel which is nothing short of a phenomenon. The very best examples in our opinion come from the world class estate of Domaine Tempier producing outstanding wines in all three colours.
