Alberto Longo is our new favourite producer from Puglia. This region is largely dominated by two black varieties: Primitivo and Negroamaro. However, in this part of Puglia, in the north, around the town of Lucera, it is other varieties that dominate. Here you can find Nero di Troia, Montepulciano, even Sangiovese. Here you can also find Aglianico, one of the noble black grapes of the South. Alberto makes his top wine 'Montepeloso' from this variety. The wine is inky and rich with profound aromas of ripe black fruits: plums, dates, then comes layers of black olives, spices and floral touches. Always with Aglianico is the ripe but dense tannins and a streak of acidity which brings the whole wine together.
