Verdicchio

Verdicchio

Verdicchio is a white grape variety primarily grown in the Marche region of Italy, particularly for the production of Verdicchio di Matelica and Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi.

Verdicchio grapes are known for their high acidity and subtle aromas of green apple, lemon, and almond. The wines produced from this grape are typically medium-bodied, but some examples, particularly those with some oak ageing, tend to the fuller end of the spectrum. The wines are often enjoyed young, but some higher-quality examples can also be aged for several years.

Verdicchio has a long history in the Marche region of Italy, with some records suggesting that it has been cultivated there for over 600 years. More recently the variety has been identified as genetically identical to Trebbiano di Soave (aka Trebbiano di Lugana).
