Bodegas Pujanza | Rioja Alavesa

Bodegas Pujanza was founded in 1998 in Laguardia in the Rioja Alavesa, lying just to the south of the Sierra Cantabria mountains. In this part of Rioja, which falls into the political region of Basque Country, winemakers don't tend to follow the rigid system of ageing and naming wines by Crianza, Reserva, etc. Instead they are a little more maverick, concentrating on the vineyard rather than time spent in barrel. Carlos San Pedro is one such producer. He works with old vines and single vineyard parcels to fashion wines which are highly polished and fine, but still retain their Riojan authenticity of style.
