Vidal 2016 Gimblett Gravels Reserve Syrah
The Syrah's coming out of Hawkes Bay's Gimblett Gravels are some of the best in the Southern Hemisphere and this wine exemplifies just how good they can be, and great value too. Full of ripe blackberry, cassis, fruity notes with a background of violets, black pepper and incense.

Vidal was created in 1905, one of the pioneering estates of Hawkes Bay and indeed New Zealand. Anthony Joseph Vidal who arrived from Spain in 1898 recognised the potential for quality wine production here due to the free draining gravelly soils and favourable climate. In the 1970s the winery was bought by Sir George Fistonich who had established Villa Maria in Auckland a decade or so earlier. The estate, although part of the Villa Maria group is run as a separate entity with its own dedicated winemaker Hugh Crichton
