Tikves 2022 Kratosija
North Macedonia, formerly part of Yugoslavia until 1991, is an exciting country for wine. The Balkan peninsula is awash with interesting native grape varieties. It is reported that this region is the origin of the famous grape variety Primitivo, AKA Zinfandel. In North Macedonia, it is known as Kratošija.
Tikveš Winery takes its name from the wine region of the same name and is the largest winery in the country. Its wines came to my attention in 2018 when I was judging a wine competition. Of all the wines I blind-tasted that day (there must have been more than 200), this wine grabbed my attention more than any other and has become a feature in our range ever since.
The wine is inky dark, ripe, and full of spicy black fruits. You can undoubtedly see familiarity with Italian Primitivo.
