Tenuta San Guido 2015 Le Difese
Le Difese is made by the world famous Sassicaia estate Tenuta San Guido. A slightly different expression from its big brother as it made from Cabernet Sauvignon and the Tuscan variety of Sangiovese. Made in a style which is suited to drinking earlier, yet it has the hallmark notes of sandalwood and cedar combined with gentle blackcurrant fruit and soft tannins
Tenuta San Guido is the legendary producer of Sassicaia, the original Cabernet Sauvignon Super Tuscan from Bolgheri on the Tuscan Coast.
The wine was first released in 1968 and was a collaboration between the owner Mario Incisa della Rocchetta and his consultant winemaker Giacomo Tachis, whose mentor was the great Bordeaux winemaker Emile Peynaud. The original vineyard was planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from cuttings made at Lafite Rothschild. The land here is very similar to the Medoc, stony, free-draining soils and a warm Mediterranean climate, ideal for these varieties. The wine achieved world wide acclaim in 1985 when it was given 100 points, a perfect score, by the American critic Robert Parker and it's place in the wine hall of fame was assured.
Since then, the estate has added two further wines: Guidalberto which is made from Cabernet Sauvigon and Merlot, and Le Difese which is Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese
