Strathearn Highland Single Malt Inaugural Release 50% ABV
Strathearn is a new distillery in Perthshire in the Highland Region. The distillery opened its doors in 2013, then purchased by the independent bottler Douglas Laing in 2019. This is the inaugural release of its single-malt.
The whisky is made from distillations between 6 and 8 years old before Douglas Laing's purchase and a smaller portion from later ones under the new owners. 32 casks have been produced, comprising ex-Bourbon, ex-Sherry, and virgin oak.
Judging by this first release, we will continue to follow this distillery. We love its malty, refined character and fruity twist.
Nose:
Anticipate a rich malted barley depth with gentle oak
Palate:
Mouth-coating and syrupy influences of honey and buttercream with baking spice and dried apricots
Finish:
Long, warming finish of home baking and buttery oat biscuits
