St Hilary Vineyard 2023 Rosé
This is the exciting first crop from St Hilary Vineyard. The wine is made from Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes grown on Peter and Liz Loch's vineyard in Cowbridge. I am not claiming any responsibility for the excellence of this wine, but I did help pick the Meunier grapes under blue skies for this vintage in October 2023. Not only can I endorse the excellent quality of the grapes we picked, but I also have a strong emotional attachment to it. Plus, it's from Noble Grape's hometown.
The wine is fresh, crisp, and juicy. Strong in red apple and orchard berry notes.
I have judged the Welsh Wine Awards for a few years and am familiar with all of Wales' rosés. This is one of the best I have tasted.
The Lochs wanted the wine to express their vineyard as much as possible. Therefore, the wine was left on its lees for as long as possible, finally completing its malolactic fermentation this month. It was bottled without fining and filtration.
