Southern Italian Reds Mixed Case, 6 bottles

We have followed Principe Pallavicini's wines for a few years and are gradually adding new wines from this superb producer in Lazio.

Roma is their top red, sourced from the volcanic hills of Castelli Romani, between the historic town of Frascati and Rome itself. The wine is made from a blend of two local varieties, Montepulciano and Cesanese, with the addition of Syrah.

Montepulciano gives the wine its tannic and acidic structure and brings black cherry notes. Cesanese, the local aromatic black variety, brings a uniquely Lazio floral and tobacco leaf character, while Syrah brings a dimension of richness. Altogether, this is a complex and complete wine, full of personality.
 

Aglianico is one of Southern Italy's noble black varieties. Although it is widely planted across the entirety of the lower part of the peninsula, its spiritual homeland (along with Taurasi in Campania) is the volcanic region of Vulture in Basilicata.

Vigneti del Vulture is a former co-operative specialising in Aglianico: their version has a modern twist, showing dark, scented black cherry fruit and subtle spices.
