Querciabella 2017 Chianti Classico

Who?
Querciabella was founded by Giuseppe Castiglione in the 1970s with a single hectare of vines. The estate is now much larger but remains the same philosophy of excellence. The estate is now run by Giuseppe's son Sebastiano in collaboration with winemaker South African-born winemaker Manfred Ing

Where?
The vineyards are largely located in Greve in Chianti, right where the two provinces of Siena and Florence meet, up on hillsides on cooler sites. There are further parcels for their Chianti located in Gaiole and Radda in Chianti. Elsewhere, there are vineyards on the Tuscan Coast where they make their Mongrana and Turpino wines. Their white wine Batar is grown on the highest elevated sites in Greve, in spots that are too cool to properly ripen Sangiovese.

Why?
Querciabella is certified organic, practising biodynamic and vegan. Aside from their admirable ethical stance the wines are among the most elegant and ageworthy in Chianti Classico. Although they grow international varieties for their Super Tuscan wines, Batar, Palafreno and Camartina, this historic estate is firmly rooted in their origin and produces properly authentic wines, that we at Noble Grape admire very much
