Port Charlotte SC:01 9YO Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt Whisky 55.2%

This excellent whisky is Port Charlotte, the peated version of Bruichladdich, finished in Sauternes casks of the finest provenance for nine years. The barley is grown is grown on Islay from three varieties. The whisky is bottled at 55.2% ABV and peated to 40ppm.

Nose
The nose shows sweet, stone fruit and delicate floral perfume with hints of peaches in syrup, dried apricots, honeyed melon and ripe pineapple. Heady notes of honeysuckle and heather follow brown sugar, vanilla fudge, caramel and marzipan. Peat smoke and warm toasted oak come through with some time to bring depth and complexity to the dram.

Palate
This dram's warmth and supple texture elegantly coat the palate and bring a balance of light peat smoke and ripe fruit. Another sip confirms the beautiful viscosity and depth of flavour, as beneath the delicate smoke comes earthy leather and boot polish notes. The oak brings strength and sweet vanilla, chocolate and citrus to complement the waves of fruit.

Finish
A dram you wish would last forever, the wonderful marine notes and earthy peat smoke linger on the palate with a citrus tang.
