Ladoix is a village in the northern part of the Cotes de Beaune, sitting at the foot of Corton hill. Most of the vineyards are on the flat, but this one comes from the Clou d'Orge vineyard, a gently south-facing slope, owned by Domaine Gagey and vinified at Louis Latour's winery in Beaune. This is from the generous 2019 vintage, packed with flavour and the ripeness from a warm vintage. There's plenty of minerality to go around as well.

Burgundy

Burgundy is a fascinating region that can take a lifetime to understand its complexities. A myriad of appellations and single vineyards further complicated by thousands of producers and merchants, each with their own 'house' style.

In simple terms, Pinot Noir for the reds and Chardonnay for the whites, but there are a few other varieties that make cameos such as Sauvignon Blanc, Aligoté and Gamay. The region stretches from Chablis in the north to Beaujolais in the south via the Cote d'Or, Maconnais and Chalonnaise.

Highlights include the outrageously good value Santenay from Prieur Brunet in the reds and J.A. Ferret's beautiful Pouilly Fuisse.
