Henschke 2015 Mount Edelstone Shiraz

In stock

Mount Edelstone Shiraz is the baby brother to Henschke's Hill of Grace. This is one single vineyard of dry-grown Shiraz in the Eden Valley planted in 1912, and has been made as a single-vineyard wine since 1952. It is roughly 16 hectares, about 4 times the size of Hill of Grace itself, but the quality of wine produced here is just a mere nudge away, being one of Australia's most historic and revered wines.

"Camphor, pitch and raspberry appear on the nose of Henschke's 2015 Mount Edelstone Vineyard Shiraz. It's a muscular, full-bodied expression of Eden Valley Shiraz, with notes of black olives and cassis on the palate and enough tannins to give this amply-endowed wine a savory edge. There's a lovely sense of tension between the fruity and savory elements and a long, velvety finish, making this one of the stars of the lineup—and a relative bargain compared to the Hill of Grace. The dry-farmed vineyard was planted in 1912 and has been bottled as a single-vineyard wine since 1952, making it one of the oldest such wines in Australia."

The Country

The UK is Australia's largest market by volume and second only to France in terms of countries in this market. There is no denying that the British love affair, which began in the 1980s, still continues. However, still the vast majority of what we see here, 85%, is bulk shipped. The nation struggles to celebrate its best wines and producers.

At Noble Grape we seek out the best that the Australia can offer and shout its regional diversity from the rooftops. Dowie Doole from McLaren Vale is one of the stars of our range. One of James Halliday's 5-star wineries, and offers incredible value for money.

Henschke is one of Australia's Crown Jewels. Now in their 6th generation of the Henschke family, the estate is most known for its old vines Shirazs from Eden Valley, culminating with Hill of Grace, one of the world's finest wines made from this variety.

Cool climate is all the rage now, and we have been seeking out delicious examples from Coonawarra, Yarra Valley and elsewhere. These wines smash the notion that Oz is all about big, jammy, alcoholic wines, bringing a degree of refreshment and sense of terroir.

The Producer

Henschke's heritage dates back to the 1860s as the proprietors of some of the country's oldest Shiraz vines, and has been revered for many decades for its single-vineyard wines, the most famous of all being Hill of Grace - a legendary wine which starts the pulses racing of wine lovers and collectors across the world. The winery is now under the stewardship of its sixth generation of the Henschke family, and since 1868 when the first wine under the Henschke name was produced, they have never been anywhere but at the top tier of Australian wines.
