Famiglia Cecchi, founded in the 1890s, is an important vineyard owner based in Castellina in Chianti. Since the 1960s they have been expanding their estate, now with vineyards and wineries in many of Tuscany's Umbria's famous DOCs.

This sampler case is a great introduction to their wines, featuring Chianti, Chianti Classico and Chianti Classico Riserva, plus two wines from the Tuscan Coast, and finally Montefalco from Umbria.

This case contains one bottle of each of these wines
Monte Guelfo 2022 Chianti
Monte Guelfo 2022 Chianti

This is a brilliant value Chianti from the estates of Andrea Cecchi. Made from 90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorino. The wine does not see any oak, making it a vibrant & fresh expression of Sangiovese. Hints of black forest fruits, woodland berries, saddle leather and victoria plums. The Cecchi family has 125 years of winemaking history and have some excellent vineyards at their disposal. This is a must buy wine for the price

Tenuta Alzatura 2021 Montefalco Rosso
Tenuta Alzatura 2021 Montefalco Rosso

Montefalco is Umbria's most famous DOC for red wines. The region is around 500 hectares, neither particularly large nor small, but among those who know, this is a paradise for those seeking fabulous Sangiovese-based reds of excellent quality and great value.

Tenuta Alzatura has been owned by the Cecchi family since 2015. They have heavily invested in the vineyards; this 2021 is their first certified organic crop. The wine is a blend of Sangiovese in the main, with more minor parts of Sagrantino and Merlot. With this vintage, we believe the quality has been pushed further. Depth of flavour and concentration are abundant, but we love the style of the wine. It is a properly authentic Central Italian red. It is genuinely epic value for money.

Val delle Rose 2019 Ciliegiolo Maremma Toscana 'Il Ciliegiolo'
Val delle Rose 2019 Ciliegiolo Maremma Toscana 'Il Ciliegiolo'

Ciliegiolo is a variety that is normally found in Tuscan blends where it is a partner to Sangiovese and others. However, there are some producers on the Tuscan coast who make wines solely from this vine. This version from Val delle Rose near Grosseto is a delicious, black fruit scented wine which is rich and dark with scents of the forest, but dominated but with intense black cherry. Vale delle Rose only makes 6,000 bottles of this so could be classed as a bit of a rarity. We love it for its authentic Tuscan character, but also its quirkiness.

Val delle Rose 2022 Morellino di Scansano "Rosamante'
Val delle Rose 2022 Morellino di Scansano "Rosamante'

Morellino di Scansano is a DOC on the Tuscan coast, close to the resort of Grosseto. The grape variety is Sangiovese, locally known as Morellino. The wines produced here differ from those of Chianti and the other parts of inland Tuscany. The climate on the coast is Mediterranean, and the wines are softer, warmer, and spicier than those of the other Sangiovese regions. Val delle Rose's Morellino is a delicious, savoury, black-cherry-scented red with a good body and freshness.

Villa Cerna 2020 Chianti Classico 'Primocolle'
Villa Cerna 2020 Chianti Classico 'Primocolle'

A great value single-estate Chianti Classico from vineyards at around 250 metres in the village of Castellina in Chianti. The wine is 95% Sangiovese and 5% Colorino aged for 9 months in barriques and made from low yielding vines. The wine is rich and full with notes of brambles, black cherries, forest fruits and victoria plums. Backed up with fine, crisp acidity and well-formed, elegant tannins
