Clos des Prouges is the oldest vines in the Ferret domaine, mostly planted in 1956 but some from 2003 as well. It has the richness of Pouily Fuisse, but an extra level of precision only found in the high echelons of Burgundy.

The Region

Burgundy is a fascinating region that can take a lifetime to understand its complexities. A myriad of appellations and single vineyards further complicated by thousands of producers and merchants, each with their own 'house' style.

In simple terms, Pinot Noir for the reds and Chardonnay for the whites, but there are a few other varieties that make cameos such as Sauvignon Blanc, Aligoté and Gamay. The region stretches from Chablis in the north to Beaujolais in the south via the Cote d'Or, Maconnais and Chalonnaise.

Highlights include the outrageously good value Santenay from Prieur Brunet in the reds and J.A. Ferret's beautiful Pouilly Fuisse.
