Chateau d'Esclans 2019 Garrus
Garrus is the pinnacle of the rosé wine production at Chateau d'Esclans. The wine is sourced from a parcel of 100 year old Grenache Noir vines with additions of Vermentino and Syrah. The wine is aged in 600L French oak barrels for 11 months with batonnage throughout.
It has been said that there is something Burgundian about Garrus, and we find it hard to disagree. There is a weight and creaminess to the palate, underpinned with fine, crystalline acidity. The aromatics are spicy, but there are notes of toasted nuts and the wild herbs of the garrigue. This wine goes way beyond the vast majority of the frivolous roses from Provence: a serious and gastronomic wine.
