Cantina Terlan 2020 Gries Lagrein Riserva
Lagrein is one of Alto Adige's most successful black grape varieties. The wines have great concentration of bitter back fruits, tinged with leafy, tobacco, and woodland scents. Terlan is one of the best producers we have found of this delicious variety. Gries is their single vineyard wine grown of hard rocks of porphyry, giving the wines it tannic structure.

Cantina Terlan
Kellerei Terlan (Cantina Terlano in Italian) is a cantina sociale (cooperative) winery located in the town of Terlano, in Alto Adige/Südtirol region of north-east Italy. It was founded in 1893 and is known for producing high-quality white wines (around 70% of what they make is white), particularly those made from the grape varieties of Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc.
The vineyards of Cantina Terlan are located in the foothills of the Dolomite Mountains, at altitudes ranging from 250 to 900 meters above sea level. The soils in this area are dominated by porphyry, a purple rock of volcanic origin
Cantina Terlan is committed to sustainable and environmentally friendly viticulture practices, using integrated pest management and organic fertilisation methods to reduce the use of pesticides and herbicides in the vineyards. They also use renewable energy sources such as solar power to reduce their carbon footprint.

The Wine Region
Alto Adige
Alto Adige along with Friuli could be considered as the source of Italy’s greatest white wines. The region is bilingual with road signs and town names having both Italian and German versions and was the last region to join unified Italy in 1919, having previously been part of the Austria-Hungary Empire. The climate is influence by the Alps with vineyards planted on the steep hillsides of the Adige Valley. The varieties planted here are a mix of internationals such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc alongside the local specialities, but our preference at Noble Grape is for the latter such as Pinot Bianco, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Grigio, Schiava, etc.
We are delighted to present the wines from three wineries, Nals Margreid, Tramin, and Terlan each having their own specialities. The first is renowned for their Pinot Biancos and can boast the region's best example from this variety, Sirmian. Tramin is, among other things, a specialist in Gewürztraminer. You may be forgiven for thinking that Alsace is the spiritual home of this variety, but we would canvass that it is in fact, here, in Alto Adige, that a more convincing claim could be made since the variety is named after the town of Tramin.
Terlan is the latest additon to our range, another of the region's famed cantine sociali making truly extraordinary wines.
