Trebbiano Toscano
Trebbiano Toscano, also known as Ugni-Blanc in France, is one of Italy's most widely planted white varieties, with over 22,000 hectares according to the latest vine census of 2010. Although there are many similarly named varieties in Italy, with the prefix Trebbiano, these are entirely unrelated varieties. Trebbiano Toscano is a distinct variety but often shortened to simply 'Trebbiano'.
Although it is not held in particularly high regard, it can be a useful variety due to its high yields, high acidity, and its tendency to ripen late. Rarely is it found on its own, more commonly as a blending component.
It is a fairly neutral variety which leads it to forming one of the major components of Tuscan Vin Santo.
