Contesa is run by father and son team of Rocco and Franco Pasetti. Rocco has a very long family tradition of winemaking in Abruzzo, but I first encountered his wines in the late nineties when he was winemaker at the Roxan co-operative in Rosciano where he made absolutely brilliant Montepulciano. Now in charge of his own winery, he continues to make some of Abruzzo's best value wines.
Arriving very soon we have selected two of his great value wines. Pecorino is all the rage at the moment. This is a very interesting white variety which has good body, coupled with delicious aromas of hay, and green herbs with scintillating acidity. A great food wine but also very pleasant as an easy drinking white too.
His Montepulciano d'Abruzzo has all the guts of this robust and bold variety, but with a level of polish that lets you know it has been skilfully crafted by a top winemaker.
These are excellent value wines and will ready for delivery from 22nd March
