Barolo Riserva Speciale 1891
This is quite possibly the oldest bottle of Barolo for sale. Sourced from a private cellar in Italy, I am afraid we know little else about it. It is quite possible that is from one of two producers who were selling commercially at the time: Marchesi di Barolo or Fontanafredda. Antique brown glass, wax capsule, level is 0.4 cm when bottle is inverted, and 4cm from base of cork when upright. The glass is dark and encrusted, but the wine looks transparent through the glass, although very difficult to discern its colour.
This is is a piece of history from the very early days of Barolo as a commercial wine.
